Appearance Disclaimer:
Cupboard Brothers is dedicated to quality and consistency however, you should expect variation in product appearance due to finish techniques, wood characteristics, grain direction and pattern, lighting, aging, and care. You should expect variations in appearance within each component and between cabinet boxes, doors, drawer fronts, trim, and moulding.
Wood is a naturally grown product and its unique physical characteristics create distinct differences from piece to piece. The density varies within the tree itself and therefore the colour tone of wood varies even within the same species. The colour tone of wood impacts the finish colour, particularly on lighter tone stains. Grain direction and pattern may also impact the colour tone of wood. Veneers may appear different from solid wood pieces. Edgebanding is generally made from PVC, which has a consistent colour however, it will not match the variation in wood tones. Finishes are applied in a variety of techniques, including by hand. Any finish that requires hand sanding will have variation in colour tones between pieces and within the same piece, door, or drawer front. Darker finishes emphasize minor blemishes.
Natural woods, different species, and finishes will age at different rates, therefore products shown in displays and / or printed materials will not be an exact match to new cabinetry. Replacement doors, drawer fronts, and other pieces may not match at all. Samples are to provide an approximate appearance of the product before purchase and represent the quality and tone of the finishes only.
Relative Humidity and Moisture Content
Humidity control is an important factor in preventing dimensional change and finish appearance problems. Problems directly or indirectly attributed to dimensional change of the wood are usually, in fact, the result of improper humidity conditions during site storage, installation, or use. In high humidity, wood picks up moisture and swells. In low humidity, wood releases moisture and shrinks. The space in which woodwork is to be installed needs to have appropriate humidity controls to maintain its optimum relative humidity. Maintain an interior relative humidity every hour of every day, within the range of 25% – 50%.
